Dr Harry Laughlin

Harry graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2012, obtaining his medical degree with clinical distinction. He spent the first three years in Hobart, but moved to Burnie for the final two years of his degree at the North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital. Staying in Burnie for the start of his medical career, Harry received the Intern of the Year award and then continued for another year of intensive care, anaesthesia and time as an emergency medicine registrar.

Harry performed his training in anaesthesia from 2015-2018 at the Royal Hobart Hospital, with 2016 based at the Launceston General Hospital. During his training, Harry achieved a certificate of merit in both his primary and final anaesthetics examinations, with results in the top 3 candidates across Australia and New Zealand. In 2019, he completed a general fellowship at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, with a special interest in upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery. Harry returned to Hobart in 2020 as a staff specialist anaesthetist at the Royal Hobart Hospital and joined the Hobart Anaesthetics Group as an affiliate in 2021.

His clinical interests include complex surgeries, especially upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary Surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery and vascular surgery. Harry also has a strong teaching focus in his role as the RHH Department of Anaesthesia Education, Training and Simulation Program Coordinator, with a large involvement in crisis management and scenario-based training.

Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his young family in the beautiful Tasmanian outdoors and playing hockey for OHA.
