Lloyd was born and raised in Zambia. After completing secondary school in Swaziland he completed a managerial degree in the UK before returning to Zambia to work on a dairy farm and learning to fly.

Lloyd returned to the UK briefly before emigrating to Australia over twenty years ago. Lloyd then studied medicine and completed his anaesthetic training at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. After a brief sojourn in Canberra he moved to Hobart and commenced work at The Royal Hobart Hospital before moving into private practice with The Hobart Anaesthetic Group in 2008. Lloyd enjoys the variety that anaesthetic work in Hobart offers.

Lloyd has four children and enjoys travelling, cycling, football, and reading.
