Joey graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (MBBS Hons) in 2004. She completed her junior years at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) before commencing anaesthetic training at the RHH. Joey went on to complete further anaesthetic training in Brisbane at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, The Prince Charles Hospital and the former Royal Children’s Hospital before returning to Hobart. Thereafter, Joey moved to Melbourne to complete an Obstetric Anaesthesia Fellowship at the Royal Womens’ Hospital.
Joey has been both a Staff Specialist at the RHH and an Affiliate with the Hobart Anaesthetic Group since 2014. Her roles at the RHH include joint Obstetric Lead for the Department of Anaesthetics and Perioperative Medicine (DAPM) and the Tasmanian Anaesthetic Education Coordinator (coordinating the education of trainees at the RHH and annual statewide training days).
Joey is passionate about obstetric anaesthesia, but enjoys the wide variety of anaesthesia that the combination of public and private practice affords her.
Outside of anaesthesia you will find Joey spending time with her young family looking for that elusive work life balance, planning another renovation or trying not to fall off a pilates reformer.
